Why is it so hard for an Jehovah's witness/Ex-Jehovah's witness to receive the message of love, grace?

The Bible teaches so much about God's love, grace, and mercy. But all I here from JWs is how you have to live right, not try, but do. The Bible teaches love and forgiveness not love and ridicule.
